Taking the two years into account, as many as 39,264 candidates are yet to be recruited. Several of these candidates have questioned the government rationale over holding the screening test for teachers if no jobs are available.

"The government has already held two TETs, but none of the qualified candidates have got teaching jobs. Holding such test has now become sheer waste of time and money. The test has lost its purpose," said Bhagwat Chavan, an aspirant from Jalna district, who earned a D.Ed and B.Ed before clearing the TET in 2013. He has taken up a short-term contractual job with the state health department.

Another candidate, who successfully cleared two TETs held so far in Maharashtra, said the government was holding the eligibility test for teachers without any vision. "The government will soon announce schedule for the third TET even s over 39,000 qualified candidates still await jobs. The test is going to become a mere formality," he said, requesting anonymity.

Speaking to The Indian Express, joint director, primary education, R S Singh said: “We have already dismissed over 10,000 teachers and have asked districts to send degree details of 30,000-odd teachers in a month.
